RAMS Core

RAMS Core is the methods knowledgebase behind the RAMSynapse platform, the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety concepts, analysis methods, and standards that every module builds on. Entries are written for practitioners: what each method is for, how the analysis actually runs, and where it connects to the rest of the RAMS workflow. New entries open as the knowledgebase grows.

Availability

Reliability combined with maintainability: uptime expressed as a system-level property.

Maintainability

Designing for diagnosability, accessibility, and predictable repair time.

Safety

From hazard identification to functional safety standards, keeping people and assets unharmed.

Testability

Designing so failures can be detected and isolated, the property that decides whether diagnosis is a query or an investigation.

Analysis methods

Reliability Allocation

Apportioning system reliability targets down the product structure so every subsystem owner carries a budget.

Reliability Prediction

Parts-stress and parts-count failure-rate prediction, MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2, NSWC-11 mechanical and related models.

Reliability Block Diagram

Series, parallel, k-out-of-n and standby structures, turning block failure rates into the reliability of a mission.

Derating Analysis

Holding every part below its rating on both axes, stress ratio and temperature, against a named rule set.

FMECA

Failure modes, their effects at every level up, and the criticality numbers that rank them by consequence rather than by rate.

Testability Analysis

The dependency model behind the detection and isolation figures: which test responds to which fault, and what that leaves ambiguous.

Fault Tree Analysis

One failure condition taken down to the combinations that cause it: gates, cut sets, exposure times and a number to compare with the budget.

Functional Hazard Analysis

Maintainability Prediction

FRACAS

The closed loop between the field and the design analyses: report, verify, find the cause, act, and prove the action worked.

Life Data Analysis

Fitting a distribution to what actually failed and what did not, so that age stops being an assumption and becomes a measurement.

Reliability Growth Analysis

Test, find the failures, fix the design, and measure whether the fixes are working fast enough to reach the requirement.
